Me: A customer reported a problem with automated downloads, but it seems like our software hasn't been doing X in months?
Programmer: Oh yeah, that broke months ago. Me: So, what's happening with it? Programmer: I wait until a customer complains, and then I email the other company and ask them to send me the files and I load them manually. Me: How do you do that? Which program do you use? Programmer: I don't know. I don't remember. It's been a while. It's there somewhere. Me: Who do you email? (I'm trying to get the details, so I can take it over, seeing as this has been dead for months). Programmer: Some guy. Me: So why isn't it working again? Programmer: Because they want to connect to the web service on port 80, and we want them to connect on another port. Me: Sounds like there should be some compromise possible to get this going again. It seems wrong to do an automatic process manually over and over. Programmer: Let me check. I emailed him a month ago and he didn't get back to me. A few days later... after hearing back from a representative of the customer again asking for a status update... Me: Did you hear back from that guy? Programmer: Nope. Me: Did you ask him for the files or did you ask him about the port issue? Programmer: Just the port issue. Sigh. |
